Two schools with the same "tuition fee" can cost very different amounts by the end of the year. Ask for the complete fee structure in writing before you pay anything.

Common fee components

  • Registration or application fee: paid with the form, usually non-refundable.
  • Admission fee: a one-time charge when you join.
  • Tuition fee: the main annual fee, often paid in terms.
  • Transport fee: depends on distance.
  • Books, uniforms and stationery.
  • Activity, lab, technology or exam fees.
  • Caution deposit: ask whether and when it is refunded.

Questions to ask

  • What is the total for the year, including transport, books and uniforms?
  • How much has the fee increased in recent years, and is there a policy on increases?
  • Which charges are refundable if we withdraw, and by when?
  • Are books and uniforms compulsory from the school, or can we buy them elsewhere?
  • Can fees be paid in instalments, and is there a late fee?

Tips

  • Pay only through official channels and keep every receipt.
  • Compare the total annual cost, not just tuition, when shortlisting.

This guide is general information for parents. Rules, dates and fees change, so always confirm with the school or the official source mentioned.
