Every parent wants to know their child is safe at school. Use this checklist on your campus visit and in conversations with the school.

Campus

  • A single controlled entry, with visitors signed in.
  • CCTV in common areas, corridors and gates.
  • Fire extinguishers, marked exits and regular drills.
  • Safe playgrounds, railings and staircases.

Transport

  • Buses with GPS tracking, a trained driver and an attendant.
  • A clear process for drop-off and handing children to authorised adults.
  • Ask whether the school's buses follow the board's transport safety guidelines.

Staff

  • Background checks for all staff, including drivers and support staff.
  • Training in child protection and first aid.

Health

  • A nurse or first-aid room, and a clear process to inform parents.
  • Clean drinking water and hygienic washrooms.

Policies

  • An anti-bullying policy and a named person to report concerns to.
  • Rules on mobile phones and safe internet use.

This guide is general information for parents. Rules, dates and fees change, so always confirm with the school or the official source mentioned.
